Meet the Teachers of Music Together on the Charles

Our teachers come from all sorts of backgrounds, but they’re united by a common passion: Sharing the joy of music with children and families in and around Belmont, Newton, Waltham, Watertown and beyond.

All teachers have successfully completed the Music Together® Teacher Training, which is built on research in early childhood and music development. Our Canta y Baila Conmigo® teachers are trained by Maddie Welch, the creator of the program. We keep our skills fresh through workshops and advanced training offered by Music Together Worldwide every semester.

We love to take each other's classes and we sub for each other when necessary. Demo classes are sometimes team-taught by two or even three teachers. It's a great chance for us to make music together with each other. . . which is what we love best!

Maddie Welch is a passionate educator and lifelong musician—singer, guitarist, and pianist—who brings her love of music and language to early childhood education. Born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico, she is fully bilingual in Spanish and English. After earning her degree from Princeton University and a Master’s in Bilingual Education from Boston University, Maddie spent over a decade teaching in bilingual classrooms in Massachusetts public schools. She discovered Music Together in 2003 as a parent and became a registered teacher in 2008. Maddie is also the creator of Canta y Baila Conmigo®, a Spanish immersion music and movement program that was developed at this very center and is now taught in Music Together and language centers across the country. She is a teacher-trainer and curriculum designer, and the proud mother of two grown, musical, bilingual children. When she’s not teaching or writing songs, Maddie lends her talents to community theater productions in the area.

After more than 15 years of teaching at Music Together on the Charles (formerly Music and Movement of Newton), Maddie is thrilled to step into the role of center director—continuing to deliver the high-quality early childhood programming that our families have come to love and expect.
